Montek Singh Ahluwalia may propose NDC meet to discuss energy crisis

NEW DELHI: The Planning Commission is likely to propose a meeting of the National Development Council before general elections next year to resolve the daunting energy crisis in the country. According to a senior official, Planning Commission deputy chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia is likely to soon write to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who is the chairman of the NDC, to convene a meeting with chief ministers of all states with a focus on energy crisis in the country. "There are whole lots of issue related to the energy sector, which are yet to be resolved. I propose to discuss this with the prime minister and suggest him to convene a meeting of the NDC before the elections next year," Ahluwalia told Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh on Wednesday after the finalisation of the state's annual plan for 2013-14. Over the last few months, Plan commission has been in the process of finalising the annual plans of all states and union territories for 2013-14.
