NTPC Ltd, India's biggest power utility, is seeking 5 million metric tonnes of imported steam coal for 18 plants across the country, according to tender documents posted on the company's website.
New Delhi-based NTPC has set 22 July as the last day to buy bid documents for seven tenders issued on Tuesday. Technical and commercial bids will be opened on 6 August while the date for opening price bids will be set later.
The state-run Indian company plans to import 17 million tonnes of thermal coal in the year started 1 April, almost double the 9 million tonnes in the previous year.
